Locally, it is believed that the name derives from a wine called "Pino Lieto, " originally mentioned by Pliny the Elder in his Naturalis Historia. Pignoletto is an ancient native vine common in Romagna and the province of Bologna, but also cultivated in the hills above the plain. It is used for the production of sparkling wines and still wines. The plan basically has a good strength and can adapt to different climatic conditions.
